Mindful Monday: As scary as it might be...the more we let go, the more we actually gain control.
Is it just me - or do you ever wake up in the morning, have your day completely planned in your head and it doesn’t turn out that way at all? Happens all of the time, right?
Then what? Do we freak out or choose to go with the flow?
When I talk about 'letting go of control' in my workshops it usually brings up a lot discomfort. I immediately feel a shift of energy in the room. People cross their arms, and I can see bodies getting more and more tense.
Just the thought of letting go can be terrifying!
And the truth is ...
We can’t control anything on the outside. We like to think we can, but we can’t.
The only thing we can control is our thinking and how we respond to what life presents.
We try to control things because of what we think will happen if we don’t.
In other words, control is rooted in fear.
Control is also a result of being attached to a specific outcome—an outcome we’re sure is best for us as if we always know what’s best.
The more we let go, the more we actually gain control.
In the past, I was constantly reacting and in fear.
Having the willingness to let go and trust has transformed my life.
I love having a mindfulness practice. It has completely changed my way of being in the world - I am taking time to stop, observe, be aware of my thoughts, actions and reactions. I learn something new every day.
When it comes to letting go - I may not always 'like' what is happening, but I know from experience it is possible to find acceptance. It's called living life on life's terms, and this is the path to peace and fulfillment.
Is there an area of your life you are trying to control?
How does this feel? Is it based on love or fear?
Is it empowering you or keeping you stuck?
You have a choice.
From Oprah...
“Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.”
To your peace + fulfillment,
