Mindful Monday: Time for Tea and Kindness

Amidst all the chaos in the world there are so many good things and good people but unfortunately, this doesn’t always make it to the front page so today I want to share a good news story with you!

There are so many people in the world who make it a better place by offering simple acts of kindness every day. They don’t look for recognition, it’s just who they are. One of those people is, Cathy Ward, who works at Teatcha Tea Shop in my neighbourhood. Cathy is a positive person who truly cares about the people who come into her shop. She gets to know people, listens to their story, and cares. People feel it. I feel it.

Sure, she is serving up great tea and goodies but there is a lot more happening here.

I love sitting in the tea shop and observing Cathy interact with people as they come and go - different people of all ages and different backgrounds. She is an example of someone who brings peace and happiness into someone’s day and seeing her in action reminds me how incredibly powerful simple acts of kindness are.

As humans we long for connection. We are hard-wired for connection. We like to feel acknowledged. It is so beautiful to see how a small neighbourhood tea shop is a place where people can feel nourished with not only tea, but comfort, kindness, and connection.

We never know how simply smiling at someone, listening to what they have to say, or giving them a compliment can impact their day. And perhaps when they feel uplifted they will naturally pay it forward. And this is how we can change our world –one simple act of kindness at a time.

So in a world that can often seem filled with negativity, for me it is even more important to focus on the positive.

I can’t change the violence and separation that is happening in the world, but Cathy reminds me how a simple act of kindness can make a big difference.

Spread the love and kindness my friends.

P.S. If you have time, stop by and meet Cathy! What’s on the menu? Tea, coffee, delicious homemade sweets, lunch and of course positive energy. Located on 44 Blackfriars Street.
