Mindful Monday: Get Out of the Grind

The past few weeks have been a roller coaster of feelings; inspired, not inspired, productive, not productive, focused, not focused, creative, not creative, frustrated, deeply fulfilled.

Can you relate?

With so much going on in our world, our feelings and emotions can feel like ping pong balls bouncing in every direction from one day to the next.

Does this make me crazy or less than? No, it makes me honest.

During these times, my ego has a hay day. ‘The Perfectionist’ paid me a visit several times.

You know, that voice that says, ‘What’s wrong with you? You’re not getting anything accomplished.’ ‘Look at everyone else.’ ‘You should be doing more.’

When I identified with these beliefs, I felt deflated and had way less energy.

When I chose to explore ‘The Perfectionist’ the game changed.

As an observer I started to look at these beliefs more objectively.
I was curious.
I wasn’t focused on fixing or getting rid of anything, I was simply noticing the beliefs systems and the reactions I was having.

When I started to explore, irritation and resistance came up quite frequently. I kept with it, and there was a beautiful unfoldment and deepening of the Truth.

The truth is – I am enough. You are enough. We are all enough.

When I let go of the reins and allowed myself to be as I am, allowed life to unfold as it is was meant, it was a huge relief.

There was more peace and joy, and creativity and inspiration shone through. Things started to flow beautifully, and I had connections and opportunities present themselves with ease and grace.

Life doesn’t have to be a grind.

‘The Perfectionist’ tells us otherwise. It is an ego structure developed at a young age, and is operating in the subconscious.

We may have been taught it’s important to be perfect, we can’t fail, we have to look good, we have to work hard to get ahead.

Maybe we were given more attention and praise for what we accomplished rather than for who we were.

At some point a belief was developed – our value is based on what we do.

Look at our society.

Why are people so busy, so driven for success, having a bigger house or better this or that?

This need to be busy, be perfect - is a virus. It is killing people with stress, anxiety, exhaustion, depression, and there is no end to it if we continue to look outward to feel whole.

The habit of continually looking outside for praise or accolades is to satisfy ‘The Perfectionist’ in our subconscious. This part of our consciousness thinks it is doing us a favour.

It is possible to change.

What if we shone love, kindness, and compassion on these parts of our unconscious that were developed innocently out of our conditioning?

When you notice ‘The Perfectionist’ is paying you a visit, take a moment for self-reflection:

  • How do I feel when I think this thought?

  • How do I feel when I acted this way?

  • How would I like to feel?

  • What else is possible?

Be Curious.

Our true nature is free, boundless, and unlimited, not tied down with restrictions or self-judgment. When we take the time to explore inward, we are rediscovering this truth.

It’s a journey and for me there is always more to discover.

With love,
Diane
