Mindful Monday: Loosen the Reins

I am in awe of the mystery of true nature and my soul’s evolution. The journey is never-ending, and there is a continual unfoldment of truth that happens and - it is beyond my control.

I am saying it is beyond my control right now, but when my ego is in the driver’s seat this truth goes out the door. My ego likes to think it is in control of EVERYTHING.

Then another part thinks, really? Me? I am in control? What about True Nature and this miraculous Universe? Is it following my lead?

The more I delve into the unknown the more I feel I don’t know anything. This can be a relief and at times it can feel unnerving.

Not knowing can be a threat to the ego yes but trusting in the moment also allows our nervous system and whole being to relax and be. We feel more connected to ourselves and life itself.

Can we be in the place of not knowing?

How does it feel in your body right now to think about it?

Last week I talked about being on a heart-centred path. Getting out of our heads and living from a more heart-centred space.

For me, this continues to be a process.

The more I let go of the reins the deeper I can dive into the truth. There is a greater capacity to trust and live in a more heart-centred way.

I haven’t been forcing myself to let go. The letting go and trusting has happened naturally as a result of being consistent with my daily practice.

In any given day we can put a lot of energy into trying to control how our day goes.

How many times do we wake up in the morning having a game plan or having a plan for our life and then, life happens? All the time, right?

So, then what? Do we freak out or are we able to switch gears and go with plan ‘b’ or plan c’

The natural state of our soul is to be more fluid, more flexible.

When we are living from a place of presence we are more in touch with our boundless nature. There is less of ‘me’ or ‘I’ calling the shots and a recognition that we are part of something much greater.

Through our conditioning, we have learned to live more in our heads. We are focused on the past or future, staying so busy we don’t take time to stop and breathe. We are more rigid and reactive. We try to control the show.

And when this part feels threatened by not knowing, it causes us to go into fight or flight, especially if in our past it was not safe to not know. Those memories are in our subconscious, and this may explain why more people than ever are experiencing anxiety globally.

All of this resistance takes a lot of energy, and it disconnects us from our true essence.

This is why it’s so important to explore this resistance in a very gentle and compassionate way – letting go of judgment and shining light and awareness to understand and provide support.

“When you get out of the driver’s seat, you find that life can drive itself, that actually life has always been driving itself. When you get out of the driver’s seat, it can drive itself so much easier—it can flow in ways you never imagined. Life becomes almost magical. The illusion of the “me” is no longer in the way. Life begins to flow, and you never know where it will take you.”

When I continue to be consistent with my daily practice, I deepen my connection to my true nature and have a greater capacity to live in the now.

It’s not perfect. It is a practice and for me, this is freedom.

With loving kindness,

Diane
