The last few weeks we’ve been exploring space and water. What can I say, it’s summertime and the beach is inspiring me in many different ways!
I love how the lake has different moods just like we do.
The last time I was there she was wild and wavy. I had fun riding the waves and receiving the energy that the waves so freely offered, like a child exploring an exciting adventure. I felt a oneness, at home.
I was curious about the waves. Some of the waves were bigger and some were smaller. Some had white crests and some did not. They were all unique in their own way.
It reminded me of something one of my teachers said. That when we watch a wave in the ocean, we may have the thought that the wave is separate from all of the other waves. The wave on the other hand doesn’t feel separate. Each wave has its own unique expression of the Divine and each wave is part of the One.
“We are not separate. Our sense of separateness is superficial and exists only in the physical dimension. In our human element, we are not separate; we are very much connected. Every other human being is just as precious as we are, and worthy of as much respect and love and consideration..."
-- A. H. Almaas
Each wave I was watching was unique and also a part of True Nature.
Just like a wave has its own unique expression, our soul has its own unique expression of the Divine. It is our ego and our conditioning that creates a sense of separation.
Our soul longs to know itself and mindfulness gives us tools to ride the wave.
Sometimes it’s exciting, sometimes it’s disconcerting and sometimes it can be scary.
With this in mind, we can remind ourselves once again:
There is nothing we need to fix about ourselves to feel worthy, enough or loveable.
For me, the journey inward is more about having a sincere desire to understand my beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and reactions. To get to know who I am and who I am not. To shine light on the unconscious, with compassion and curiosity.
This takes courage and perseverance and is a moment-to-moment practice.
Letting go can be disconcerting to our ego that likes to be in control. If resistance arises, we hold space for that part.
When we are consistent with our practice everything else will fall into place.
We don’t need to figure out the details. True Nature has a wisdom and knows what we need, and when we step out of the way will provide the support needed and everything will be revealed.
Whenever I think I know how things are going to turn out or should turn out, I am, once again, reminded I am not in control. Then I pick myself up and begin again!
Like anything, when we remain steadfast with our pursuit change happens, trust builds - in ourselves and the process.
Coming home to ourselves requires being present in the here and now.
Being in our body. Sensing, Feeling, Looking.
When want to develop a friendship what do we do?
We spend time with this person.
We ask questions, we listen, we care.
The journey inward is getting to know ourselves. We are learning to become our own best friend and ally.
We shine light on the darkness.
With tenderness and sincerity we get to know ourselves, and as we do we continue to awaken to the truth.
As Jon Kabitt Zinn says, “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”
Take good care,
Diane
