Mindful Monday: Take Care of Yourself

There is so much chaos happening in the world right now. The collective energy is turbulent, and maybe, like me, you are feeling it too, either consciously or subconsciously.

It may feel like a few people have all the power and we are powerless.

But we are not powerless. We are being called to step into our true power.

True power is not controlling.

True power is not destructive.

We can learn to anchor in our essence, observe rather than absorb what is happening around us, and prioritize self-care and simple acts of loving-kindness, no matter what our feelings may be that day.

One morning last week, I went for a walk in my neighbourhood. It was a bit rainy, but I found it very refreshing. As I was heading up to my driveway, I saw a woman who looked distressed. She asked me if I knew where a certain street was. She and her nephew had been waiting at the bus stop for quite some time, and the bus hadn't arrived.

She told me her nephew had recently arrived from Nigeria. This was his first time taking the bus to his new high school, and he was going to be late.

They both seemed a bit stressed and cold, so I offered to drive them to the school about twenty-five minutes away. We had a nice conversation on the way there, and then we dropped off her nephew, and I drove the woman home.

When I got home, my heart felt happy. I was grateful that I was there at the perfect time to help out these two people. It was a beautiful way to start my day, and I’m also grateful that I took a moment to pause, be present, and reflect on how this interaction touched my soul.

This was a beautiful reminder of how simple things like connecting, being kind, and caring for each other, even complete strangers, bring so much joy and meaning to our lives.

The next day, I felt very different. My heart was heavy, and my eyes were filled tears of sadness for all the separation, hatred, and greed in our world. It felt like I was tapping into the collective consciousness, and it felt overwhelming.

Although they were two very different days and experiences, they had something in common.

On both days, I was able to observe and acknowledge my feelings. I created space for my feelings to be felt. It felt kind and compassionate.

There was nothing to fix. I was present to my experience and taking care of myself.

I received an excellent online reiki session from Mel Dodge. It was perfect for helping clear my energy field and reset. I had a beautiful online Qigong class with Kim Morrison that left me feeling calm and energized. I have been dancing and shaking my body before I meditate in the morning. It feels so good to release stagnant energy and energize my system.

My practice is staying grounded in my body in the now.

When we are grounded in our body, we can have an open heart and feel safe. We develop discernment—is this my energy, or is it someone else's, the collective energy?

It's easy to be swept into fear, confusion, doubt, or powerlessness. We are disconnected from ourselves and our true essence when we are caught up in our heads all day. We are giving away our power.

Our temple is precious, and we develop our awareness by being here in the present.

This week, I encourage you to connect with yourself and take care of yourself. Setting an intention at the beginning of your day and repeating it when you feel your mind or energy shifting outward can help you stay in your power.

Try this:

I choose to
honour my feelings
have an open heart
to listen and take care of myself.

With love,

Diane
