Mindful Monday: We Are Powerful

I love and appreciate the time I spend with my incredible mom. I love our conversations, hearing her stories of growing up on a farm in Prince Edward Island and her perspective of how the world is now. At 92, she holds so much wisdom.

Recently, she shared that when she was a young girl, every year on May 21st, she and her siblings were allowed to ditch their shoes and go barefoot for the summer. She loved it. She shared how when my grandma was cooking and needed some flour or sugar, she would ask my mom to go to the general store. The store was over a mile away, and my mom would run through the fields to the store and back home. She said she loved running through the fields barefoot. It felt so freeing.

Listening to her retell this story is everything. You can see and feel her connection to the memory - the joy it brought her then and decades later as she shares it with me.

I can easily imagine her younger self taking off through the fields, her hair flying behind her, and the sun shining down on her. She felt free and connected to the earth, and herself and the simple act brought her so much happiness.

When I was young, I always played outside all the time. I grew up on a street with at least seventy kids, so I had many friends with whom to play. We had a wonderful community.

I would walk through the woods to get to public school. We would climb trees and, play in the forest, check out the pollywogs in the pond on the way home. I loved it.

Spring was my favourite time to ride my bike with my friends. I was on the road with my banana seat, fancy streamers flowing from my handlebars, and decorations on the spokes of my wheels. This memory is my equivalent to Mom's running barefoot through the fields; this is what felt like freedom to me.

Now, as a woman, what does freedom mean to me?

Freedom, for me, is

  • connecting to my true essence and living authentically

  • having space in my mind

  • having an open heart

  • feeling safe and grounded in my body and my life

  • speaking my truth

  • feeling my feelings, even when it is really painful

Freedom is being me—just as I am, where I am. It is loving who I am and knowing that true peace is within. And I know that now.

The world is full of chaos right now—conflict, poverty, war, uncertainty. If we focus on this and neglect our inner world, we will be filled with fear and anxiety and unable to trust ourselves or life.

When we focus most of our attention on the outer world, we lose touch with our essence, inner strength, and true power. It can leave us feeling helpless, inadequate or unsafe.

When we can stay grounded, present, and clear, we are free. We can access our inner knowing and navigate through life from a more empowered place.

At this time in the world and in our evolution, we are being called to step into our power.

We are powerful.

Our true power comes from within.

It is not defined by what we do, what we have, or what we look like.

Our true power is a quality of our essential nature, not based on something changing. It is who we are.

When we live from the inside out, our words, actions, and way of being, become an expression of our true essence rather than our ego.

And it is a practice.

We reunite with our true power in this moment, again and again and again. We are learning how to be in the world, not of the world.

I didn't grow up thinking I wanted to be a mindfulness coach. I lived a very fast-paced and chaotic life. The last thing I wanted to do was be present. But the Divine had and has a plan for me and all of us.

What I know to be true when I can be here in the now is trust everything will unfold as it is meant to.

Are you longing to feel the freedom to connect to who you really are?

This is a gift to you and the world.

A few months ago, I was inspired to create a nine-week program for women. Everything came to me and has unfolded as it was meant to. Now I know why.

It's time for us to unite, heal, feel, speak up, and step into our power.

When we shine, we help all shine.

Our true freedom comes from within. Our true strength, peace, comfort, and love all come from within, and we access these qualities of our true nature by being here now.

It's time to be free, to celebrate who we are, and to bring more lightlove, and truth into the world as we do this.

Please join me for my 9-week online program Women Shining Bright, designed to help you connect with what truly matters to you, paving the way for freedom, new possibilities, and a life of authenticity. You can register or find more information here.

With love,

Diane
