Mindful Mondays: Lacking Passion or Purpose? This is what my mom does...
My mom is someone who inspires me deeply. At the age of 85, she is filled with vitality, has a depth of spirituality and is always giving back.
Lately, I have been reflecting on the importance of giving back and being of service - and how it makes me feel when I do this.
I was raised this way.
My parents were always giving in different ways. My dad literally gave the shirt off of his back more than once and our door was always open. Quite often we would have friends or acquaintances at the dinner table on Sunday or holidays...and we still do.
I don't know about you, but when I get caught up in self-centered thinking or am focused on what is going wrong life feels flat or mundane.
One of the quickest ways for me to get out of my self-centered thinking is to give - to be of service.
How can we give back? There are so many ways.
This is one of the ways my mom gives back....
My mom prays for people every day. She loves to sit on her front porch and read and pray.
This summer my sister Deb created an angel garden for mom. It is so peaceful. All of the great grandchildren have gotten involved. They have named the angels and also helped to decorate a 'prayer box' for all of the prayers to have a home. It has been a lot of fun for everyone.
It doesn't matter how old we are - as humans, we are all wired the same. We long for meaning and purpose.
But, the truth is, we don't always know how to get it.
We can sometimes overlook the power of practicing simple principles that have been spoken of for thousands of years - including being of service.
Right now my mom is reminding me of this - and it makes smile.
And having said that...
If you would like my mom to pray for you or someone else please send a request. :)
We will put your prayer in the prayer box and mom will gladly pray for you.
To your peace, well-being + fulfillment,
Diane
