Self-discovery is like an onion. As we peel back the layers, the truth of who we are begins to reveal itself more and more.
Lately, I’ve noticed and felt this unpeeling within myself - I’m seeing some things differently. It is so intriguing to witness a shift in perception that appears to come out of the blue when I least expect it or when I'm not efforting to find it.
I call this grace.
As we continue to focus our awareness inward, layers of the onion (beliefs, stories) begin to fall away.
Not because we are forcing or judging them – but because we are observing them and choosing to place our awareness on the Truth.
We begin to embody the peace, resiliency and truth of who we are, and THIS is where our true power lies.
Think of our mind as a projector. Whatever is in our mind (thoughts, beliefs) is projected outward and that is how we see ourselves, others and life. As we consciously peel back the layers, the lens of the mind becomes more focused and clear.
This is living life from the inside-out rather than the outside-in.
When we were first born, our mind was like a computer with hardware but no software. We were present. We weren't thinking about the past or future, right?
Then as we got older, we started to download software (beliefs) into our computer. Most of our software was picked up from our parents or whoever raised us; we learned by what we saw and heard.
As adults, we can get so caught in the trap of thinking we need to fix our thoughts or ourselves - because we are identifying with our outdated software.
But the beauty of mindfulness is that by doing the work to peel back what’s on the surface and dig a little deeper, we realize the only thing missing is the connection to who we really are.
The journey of self-discovery is not about acquiring something new or fixing something - it is one of shining the light (awareness) on the darkness (stories) that are preventing us from being present and connected to essence.
Something to explore this week...
* Set the intention to pay attention - to your thoughts, beliefs and stories playing in your head.
* Be curious, kind and inquisitive. Letting go of judgment.
* You could stop and think 'That's interesting my mind is thinking that.'
* When you think that story notice...How it makes you feel?
* When we can observe our thoughts we are no longer identifying with our thoughts
Remember at our core, we are whole, we are enough, and we have everything we need within to experience peace and be fulfilled.
