Mindful Monday: Working Through Resistance

Sometimes we are living life and embracing the moment; we have the courage and tenacity to be present with adversity, and at other times, there is resistance.

This is natural and normal.  We are human.

I think it is safe to say we all go through this ebb and flow at different times – whether it be with our work, relationships, health, finances, and in the last six months with COVID.

The truth is impermanence is everywhere and in everything.

I think what is key is when we find ourselves on the side of resistance, can we acknowledge it and still stay rooted in the inner knowing that there is no going back to being asleep or closing the door on our spiritual path.

When we practice living with the ever-changing landscape of life, there is a freedom. We are expending less energy trying to fight, hang onto or push away.

We may not always like our situation. It is however possible to find acceptance, and as we do, our happiness will naturally start to increase as we let go of control, and trust in ourselves and in life.

Our perception and relationship to change or adversity is related to our past experiences and how we are choosing to live life in the present.

If our nervous system is highly stressed, we may find ourselves more reactive and not feeling grounded; that any change that comes along can put us into a tailspin.

It is so important to meet ourselves where we are at.

To be kind to ourselves and practice self-compassion as we continue to develop our capacity to be in a relationship with change.

Perhaps you can handle change or adversity well or perhaps it is more challenging for you.

There is no judgment here.

The ego tells us that happiness and fulfillment will happen when our ducks are all lined up perfectly in a row, exactly as we want them to be. This is an illusion and a trap.

This need for something to be different prevents us from being present in our life which creates even greater dissatisfaction at a soul level.

Remember:  Each moment is new, never to be the same as the last.

Every day we are given opportunities to let go, trust, feel, and connect to our truest self. Our mindfulness practice enables us to develop a resiliency that allows us to live life on life’s terms; building greater capacity to navigate through challenging times.

I encourage you to trust in yourself, in your ability to navigate these times and persevere. I’m here to support you.

With love,
Diane
