Mindful Monday: Will You Answer the Call?

This summer I spent some time writing about my spiritual path and how it’s intersected with my life; reflecting on where I was, where I am now, and where I want to be.

It’s provided a lot of perspective on what’s truly important to me, getting it all down on paper, and then taking the time to go through and read it back to myself. The exercise was emotional and also inspiring. I recognized that through the highs and lows, ups and downs I have never given up on this path.

I am a warrior. There is no stopping me.

I believe we are spiritual beings in a physical body and whether we know it or not, we are all on a spiritual path.

I was always searching for something more, probably my whole life. When I was revisiting my past there was a definitive moment that stood out. A moment when I stepped out of my comfort zone big time and took a leap into the unknown.

It was twenty-seven years ago this September.

I was living in Vancouver and was the queen of stress with a capital “Q’. My levels of anxiety had reached an all time high. What did I do? I kept staying busy hoping it would go away. But it didn’t. It got worse.

One day when I was leaving a café a flyer on the bulletin board caught my eye. In big bright words it said ‘Find Peace Within”. It was promoting a 10-day silent meditation retreat on Vancouver Island.

I was totally taken in. It’s like the words were speaking directly to me.

In that moment something within took over and there was a strong pull. My inner voice said ‘Call them’.

In those days we didn’t have smart phones so I did it the old-fashioned way. I wrote down the phone number, hopped on my bike and headed home to my landline. I couldn’t get home fast enough, I made the phone call and before you know it, I was signed up. No time to second-guess!

This wasn’t my logical mind in action. Because my logical mind was going, “What?! 10 days of silence are you nuts?” and yet there was another part of me thinking, “This is it. This is the peace you have been longing for.”

Have you ever had that happen? An urge is so strong that it moves you to do something, totally out of your comfort zone. It’s like a burning desire that can’t be stopped.

Here I am all those years later and I’m still on the journey. I have taken many courses, workshops, training.  At one time I had a guru, wore white and changed my name. I have explored a lot!

I believe there are no mistakes. Everything we have been through has gotten us to where we are today.

We may like where we are. We may not like where we are.

The question is…

Can we meet ourselves with compassion in the here and now?

If you’re like me, your soul yearns for a deeper connection to Self.

We can enjoy things on the outside deeply, but the true fulfillment comes from our connection within.  In fact, our connection to our true self within is what gives us a deeper connection to life on the outside.

What does your soul yearn for?

Do you take time to stop and listen?

I mean, really listen.

Is there something brewing inside?

You feel it don’t you?

The question is…

Will you answer the call?

The road to self realization lies in the here and now, not a future moment when we have this or that.

For many of us, we are drawn to a more spiritual path. We may not know why. We don’t have to know why. It’s our truth. It’s a yearning that comes from within, and from my experience the yearning doesn’t stop until we stop and go inward.

When we follow our truth, it leads us to the freedom that we long for and deserve.  It requires us to persevere like a warrior. Take action. Stay the course. Step out of our comfort zone over and over again.

Answer the call. Take the step. I’m here to support you.

With love and light,

Diane
