I love writing these weekly messages to you. It has been such an interesting and beautiful journey and I’m so grateful we can connect this way every week.
What I find interesting is what I ‘choose’ to write about or what chooses me.
Most weeks, I go into writing it with an idea about what I think I should write about or need to write about but often, something happens, and the Universe gives me a clear message what I am meant to write about.
Take last week for example…
I decided to do some summer cleaning, organizing and sorting out drawers and closets. I always find it interesting what I find. Things from the past that I’ve forgotten about or thought I had lost, and things I am ready to give away or dispose of.
As I was sorting through a drawer, I found a little piece of paper sandwiched between other random stuff with a quote I had handwritten:
‘How do you know what you need if you don’t take a break from what you want?
The words spoke to me. I read it again.
Then I read the words above it ‘What is this moment like with nothing to want?'
Wow. Powerful stuff. It caused me to pause and reflect.
These words came from Matt Kahn, and as always, they were reappearing at the perfect time.
Try this:
Take a moment to read these words and let them sink in.
How do you know what you need if you don’t take a break from what you want?
Breathe in the words. Exhale and relax.
Pause.
Then read or say these words out loud…
What is this moment like with nothing to want?
Breathe in the words. Exhale and relax.
Pause.
Then ask yourself the question,
Is there an area in your life that you are constantly focused on wanting it to be a certain way?
‘I want to have this/ control this/ fix this/ get rid of this in order to_________.’
How much time do you spend focusing on this?
Is this supporting you in a positive way?
Is this causing your stress, self-judgment and holding you back?
Now, consider this:
How much time do you spend being still, trusting and listening to your inner wisdom?
When I get really focused on something I want, it can be like I have blinders on. I don’t see anything else around me, am trying to be in control and as a result, I’m not able to receive what I need from the Universe.
Then that magical aha moment comes when I realize I’m trying to control the show.
Whenever we become aware we aren’t present, we are present.
In this moment of awareness, we have a choice.
We can continue to keep our blinders on and focus on what we want, or we can let go of the reins and trust.
Having said that, it’s a lot easier to trust in ourselves and the Universe when everything is going our way, isn’t it?
The real work comes when things aren’t going our way. When we are being challenged with our health, finances, relationships, our existence, life.
I have found myself in some pretty painful situations the last few years, both physically and emotionally, and what I have experienced is, that when I practice these principles, I continue to access a strength and resiliency within that is deeply beautiful and exquisite. It can never be taken away. It is who I am.
The Truth is waiting patiently to be acknowledged and to provide support for us.
Wherever you find yourself I meet you there and send you love.
